WHY BEING PREDICTABLE IS YOUR SECRET WEAPON RIGHT NOW

Stand out! Be original! Or, as Seth Godin would say, be like a purple cow in a herd of brown.

I don’t disagree with that approach, championed by many marketing gurus.

But as we head into a new year of uncertainty, I’d like to offer another view.

With so much change and tumult, predictability has taken on a new aura of attractiveness.

Think about it: Great people are still leaving organizations in big numbers. New employees are trying to find their way in hybrid situations. We’re suspicious of the government, we don’t trust the media and now our data is being stolen on a scary scale.

If you’re a leader, who do you need to be?

Someone who’s dependable. Steady. Dare I say it…predictable.

Be as clear as you can on your direction and communicate about it consistently with your teams.

Don’t worry if you don’t know all the answers – no-one does right now. Communicate about what you DO know and what you expect to happen next.

In 2023, outstanding leaders will be credible communicators, balancing clear information with empathy and rapport.

It’s your steadiness that will make you stand out.
